Group Five

Group Five is a complicated man, and no one understands him but his woman. [Group Five!]
Group Five specialises in downbeat hip-hop instrumentals featuring avant jazz and avant classical recordings. It's a bit like Bela Bartock on a Benadryl bender. Coffee blended with Dada and cigarette ash. You really have to listen to it to get the picture.
Group Five began solo beat workings in the late 90s and had early success with the track Burma Road on the compilation Ear Works 04 on Capital Recordings. In 2003 he began performing at While_You_Were_Sleeping nights with other alt-electronica stalwarts (not to say Hogwarts) such as Aquaboogie and Panoramica. In 2005 he performed at a Wellington City Art Gallery Late Night Session during an exhibition of the artist Bridget RIley.
In 2006 Group Five founded the Angry Rabbit label with Aquaboogie, and has had five releases with this redoubtable net label.
